Rebecca; by Daphne Du Maurier.

One can describe it as a mystery, as a description of home and life of a beautiful woman who is dead before the book begins, as the tale of courage of a man facing impossible choices - and almost forget the protaginist who tells the story and remains nameless, faceless, while deeply affecting us with her strength facing odds she does.

It is all of that and more.
