Be Careful What You Wish For: (Clifton Chronicles); by Jeffrey Archer.

Archer exposes in this part the IRA - Nazi nexus that continued via Buenos Aires and other places the latter took refuge post WWII, with IRA being financed majorly for their activities via providing mercenaries and terrorist or revenge activities for those that paid, in this case Don Martinez who has employed a major nazi of yore.

The don hates Clifton and Barrington family because his plan to murder young Sebastian and make it look like an accident backfired and instead his beloved youngest son Bruno the friend of Sebastian died in that accident. He tries everything from putting up Major Alex Fisher up as his representative after acquiring interest in the Barrington shipping and attempting to sabotage the company in every way. As usual there is a cliffhanger at the end, and we guess but do not know how many survive, but meanwhile Don's son Diego has managed a major coup by not only desecrating and destroying paintings of the genius Jessica who has graduated from Slade and impressed everyone there, but far more.

Destroying the company proves more difficult for him than attempted or successful assassinations, however, since British are more adept at legitimate business and how to foil attempts to sabotage, and he fails in this, until he employs IRA once again. The cliffhanger here is double though - he has only half the money he owes them and is caught trying to escape. That might not save lives of those he is trying to get rid of, not by itself, but we have to wait for the fifth and final part.

One loves the dour businessmen such as Cedric Hardcastle and the fish paste man Bob Bingham for their valour in coming out of their safety net and to the rescue of the true and right who are victims of the evil. May their sort always win.
