At the very outset there's a major glitch very obvious  - namely, that one assumes that the protagonist is a female. This is chiefly due to the writing style, and when one checks back, yes the author is a woman.

Historically, most authors have been male, so this glitch was just as true of their writing of female characters. But most readers were male, too, until a century or even a couple of centuries ago, so it wasn't seen, and even now, not pointed out, because the dominant section of society assumes they are right. Whether a Western author writing about a Chinese or an Indian, a male about a female, or whatever.

The opposite, however, is immediately obvious as ridiculous, to most of the dominant section of society, anyway. That, for example, most viewers of Indian films and serials are Indian, and they couldn’t care less if the depiction of west is incorrect, is never realised by west. But equally unrealised, still, is that the stereotyped portrayal, say, of Raj and other Indian characters in Big Bang Theory, is perhaps never realised by those not connected with India.

That said, quite satisfactory for a light read.
