The Pelican Brief; by John Grisham.

From murders of supreme court judges for purpose of appointments of suitable judges so the verdict on an oil company would be in favour, to the environment issue about a state, and a brief written by a brilliant student who is persecuted by the killers and corporation and therefore ends up destryong their apple cart - or rather oil and other cartels.

Not a moment of action wasted, not a word that could be edited out. As taut as it is about issues that matter, and so a must read by any who care about the world we live in.

For all those that think we can all survive and let live and not meddle - this one is a lesson in the illustration of the famous lines of the poet of a bygone era:-

No man is an island, ...,
And therefore do not send to know for whom the bell tolls,
It tolls for thee.
