On the positive side, this was a necessity - a record of facts, swept under rug by most governments until the millennium, since they wouldn't admit a mistake, much less a huge one, a humongous one like lose millions of square miles of a territory of India due to Gandhian attitude towards those that would and did take advantage of it, to invade, attack and kill Indians.

On the other side, the book is far too small - 18 pages - and what's needed is a far more detailed account with extensive, deep analysis. Here one finds facts one needs to know, especially the generation that's too young to remember the war personally,  but they are minimal.

"China attacked us on 20th October, 1962. Major Dhansingh Thapa (1/8 Gorkha Rifles) was entrusted with the security of a part of this challenging area. Major Thapa and his soldiers valiantly gave a befitting reply to the Chinese. Although, in the face of high degree of preparedness by China, our prospects of victory were negligible, yet Major Dhansingh Thapa and his troop fought with bravery and remained at the post trying to hold fort till the last. Chinese soldiers took him as Prisoner of War and tried very hard through torture to elicit vital military information but could not succeed. At last, Chinese forces released him. For his gallantry, he was awarded with Param Veer Chakra."

"On 18th November, 1962 when Chinese attack was in full swing, Major and his soldiers gave a befitting reply to advances made by the Chinese Army.Major suffered with serious injuries, but even then he kept encouraging his soldiers to fight on. After fighting bravely against the enemy, he made the supreme sacrifice of his life. All of a sudden, snowfall started and his body got buried in the snow."

"The war of Rejang La was regared as one of the most unique wars in the martial history as the deployed strength of only 124 Indian soldiers (out of which 114 were killed) had inflicted very heavy casualty on China by having killed 1,310 Chinese soldiers with the display of unmatched fighting skills and outstanding courage. Even the Chinese armymen were also impressed with such courageous fightback."

"Prior to 1962 War, the entire lake belonged to us, but nowadays only 30% of the lake area remains with us and the remaining has been taken by China."

"After 1962 War, China illegally has occupied our 42,735 sq. km area`of Aksai Chin and Arunachal Pradesh."

Author goes on to give facts on political side - how PM Jawaharlal Nehru, still beguiled by Gandhian attitude, trusted China, and even defended the invasion by China (until the war), when questioned in parliament about China occupying millions of square miles of India's territory in Aksai Chin, by saying "not a blade if grass grows there; how Sardar Patel had written, before his demise, to Nehru, warning him about China, but was forgotten, as he was ignored too about paki occupation of Kashmir; how the then defence minister Krishna Menon, a leftist, had closed down several ammunition factories of India,  proposing to convert them into turning out cheap pots and pans; how the soldiers were extremely poorly equipped, and it was fault of the then political leadership, but the soldiers had had fought extremely bravely; and more.

The author gives smaller details of the various battlefields of Rezang-La in Ladakh and Tezpur in Arunachal Pradesh, then NEFA, where China had occupied India's territory during and since 1962 war, and still claims the rest; and more, about the memorials, families, et al.

Must read, for young India.
