As beautiful as the beginning is, it palls very fast - unless one is invested with an agenda of attacking India and all her treasure of antiquity.

Not that one can accuse this poet of such an agenda. Most youth of his era were filled with, impressed by, the events still fresh - monarchies of Europe had reduced sizably in numbers after WWI, Russian revolution had filled a great many with inspiration and hope and more, and most young with goodwill and naivety were leaning left. Partly from thst, partly from the propaganda by colonial rulers for several centuries against India, and partly due to Indian fondness for a "me too" (applied usually more to India and Hinduism rather than any "me"), this enthusiasm turning to finding fault with good of India, and vice versa, was the novelty.

This poet has used it to the hilt, and one can't quite say if he read the original or did any quiet rumination to let the subtleties and grandeur seep in, before jumping in to be quite so abusive when he took up the topic to write an epic of his own on the eldest son of a queen born before she was married, and hence the fact of the relationship hidden from almost everyone, until his death. The original epic doesn't treat him with abuse or disdain. Dinkar had probably no intention of hiding his fury about the bright young man being treated as a lower caste due to his bringing up, but could have been a tad less partisan, not intruding his political inclinations in the ancient epic.

"‘जय हो’, जग में जले जहाँ भी, नमन पुनीत अनल को,

जिस नर में भी बसे, हमारा नमन तेज को, बल को।

किसी वृन्त पर खिले विपिन में, पर, नमस्य है फूल,

सुधी खोजते नहीं गुणों का आदि, शक्ति का मूल।

ऊँच-नीच का भेद न माने, वही श्रेष्ठ ज्ञानी है,

दया-धर्म जिसमें हो, सबसे वही पूज्य प्राणी है।

क्षत्रिय वही, भरी हो जिसमें निर्भयता की आग,

सबसे श्रेष्ठ वही ब्राह्मण है, हो जिसमें तप-त्याग।

तेजस्वी सम्मान खोजते नहीं गोत्र बतलाके,

पाते हैं जग से प्रशस्ति अपना करतब दिखलाके।

हीन मूल की ओर देख जग गलत कहे या ठीक,

वीर खींचकर ही रहते हैं इतिहासों में लीक।
